Protecting your children online is now required granted the contents on the internet. If you have a kid and are thinking of introducing them to the internet, here are some guidelines.

Keep the Pc Visible

Place the desktop or netbook in a place which you can conveniently see. If the pc is in the kid’s room, you will be left wondering what sites they’re browsing.

Even better is if you join the kid as they learn to use the Web. By making Internet surfing a household activity, you can oversee their activities while at the same time bonding with them.

Chat and Social Networks

Kids internet safety could be more complicated if they’re into social networks. One thing you can do is to start an account on the social network web site. When you have set up your account, ask your kid to make you a friend on the web site.

Also ask your kid to introduce their pals to you. Do not shy away from social networks. Your childrens would be using this to communicate. It will even make them vulnerable to web strangers, so you need to be accustomed to it.

Website Blocking Softwares

Also known as Internet filter applications, you can use them to restrict access to chat rooms if you think it is needed. Aside from preventing chat rooms, you can use it to keep porn sites away. These same applications can supervise their e-mail, internet histories, control game access, block IM as well as numerous more. There are lots of applications like these, so look internet first.

Reminders for Children

Remind them to never share personal info on the internet, especially with a stranger. Their names, addresses as well as schools must never be given off. Also tell them that they can’t use the Internet to arrange face to face meetings without informing you. Also advise them to never post their images on the internet without telling you.

Additional Reminders

Children shouldn’t conduct any financial transactions on the Net without telling you. If they’re old enough to comprehend web transactions, tell them not to purchase everything or use the credit card without your consent. Bullies are becoming more commonplace. If they’re bullied, teach them not to conceal it, but rather tell you.

You can even start defending your kids by instructing them not to use their real names on the internet. This can prevent web strangers from recognizing who they’re. Tell them not to share passwords with anyone except you.
